Silver perch

Hi! I’m a Silver perch

Silver Perch are found in the Murray-Darling river system in south-east Australia. Once widespread, they are now confined to smaller segments of the river. This catastrophic decline in Silver Perch is not well understood, but potentially the removal of spring floods by dams and weirs has impacted the fishes ability to breed successsfully. Many weirs are fatal to Silver Perch that pass through them, and eggs are trapped in the sediment here too.

The National Zoo & Aquarium is home to 2 Silver Perch.
